Week 9 - September 15 - Part 1

SPECIAL NOTE: I noticed the last time that I blogged an entire week, you had to read it from the end and work your way to the beginning in order for it to make sense. So...I have blogged this week backwards and thus the beginning is at the beginning instead of at the end. Does that make sense? Besides, I am now caught up with the current day...so if I blog every day, I won't have any problems.....right?

September 15th & 16th, 2008

On Monday, the 15th, the crew took over the street.

You can see the roof trusses they are putting together

On Tuesday, the 16th, they had to wait for the crane to arrive and put the trusses on top of the house. So....they put in the hole for the stairwell to the basement.

They framed out the double closet in the master bedroom (a summer and winter closet for me, Yay!!!!)

This shows the framing for the entry from the mudroom and garage into the laundry room and then into Den's walk-in closet. In the background is the large sliding door to the deck from our bedroom.

Week 9 - September 15 - Part 2

September 16th, continued...

Amy says she is not in very many pictures...so here she is in the front door...you can see more of the roof trusses in the foreground.

Here she is again, posing in a garage door window.....enough, Amy?

And here is the view from the top of the hill.

Week 9 - September 17 - Part 1

September 17th, Part 1

The crane came sometime this morning....I missed it, naturally!

Two of the guys are working on the framework for the front porch and the other two on the frame for the deck porch. The crane has not arrived yet.

As you can see, the crane has been there and all the trusses are lying on the roof (Actually you can't see the trusses because they are lying (laying?) down). The crew has raised some of them.

A view from inside the house. These trusses are above the guest bedrooms and bath.

You are looking out the "bay window" and back door onto the deck.

And here is the view from the top of the hill.

Week 9 - September 18 - Part 1

September 18th, Part 1

Since all the trusses were placed on top of the house yesterday, the crew just finished putting them upright...yeah, that sounds easy enough!

The neighbor's view of the house is the garage, bathroom window, and master bedroom. See the roof trusses all finished on this side.

A close up view of the deck.

If you look closely you can find the two small post footings that will support the deck walkway to the driveway. They are very short and close to the back wall of the basement.

You haven't seen an inside view of the basement in awhile. This will eventually be Amy's bedroom.

Week 9 - September 20 - Part 1

September 20th, Part 1

On Friday, the 19th, they started putting on the first layer of roofing. I was busy all day and did not get any action shots...sorry. Then it rained overnight and into Saturday morning. So it was too muddy to tramp to the back of the house to get pictures....they only did the back of the house on Friday.

Here is how a half roof looks from the inside...

and here too....

and finally here.

Week 9 - September 20 - Part 2

September 20th, continued...

I forgot to mention that Amy and I took 3 munchkins with us on Saturday when we went out to check the house. Ella Eckert, Nina, and Gini came to do some clean-up. Our original intention was to pick up some trash and add some nails to Gini's collection, but it was too muddy to do very much, and the house itself was full of puddles.....remember we only have half a roof and it rained this weekend.

I bought some little yellow smiley face buckets at the dollar store (they are birthday party treat holders) and I keep them in my car. The girls use them to collect nails and dump them in a big jar when they are full. Ella enjoyed the nail collecting.

Nina did too, until she almost picked up a cricket! EEooooo!

Gini did quite a bit of nail collecting, but then decided she needed rocks too. All three girls took rocks home and ended up painting them with markers in the front yard at Woodland Ct. I am not sure where those rocks are now....maybe I should be asking some questions?

Below is a video Amy took when the girls were not looking...they discovered the front door makes an excellent stage.....

Week 8 - September 11 - Part 2

September 11th, continued....

Gini is walking past the kitchen. You can see the front door to the right, and the window you see will be directly above the sink.

If you look very carefully in this picture you will see the concrete footings they poured for the deck posts. There are three of them, about 12 feet out from the back sliding door, there is also one right on the corner of the house that will support the ramp that comes off the deck and goes to the driveway.

While Gini was exploring, she discovered this dragon footprint in the back yard. It is right underneath the pipe that drains from the back of the wall. She is sure it is a dragon, and it has probably scared off the deer. We haven't seen any more hoof prints from them.

And finally, the view from the top of the hill.

Week 8 - September 11 - Part 1

September 11th, 2008

Today the inspection crew came out to take a look at "Maw-Maw's" new house.

You can finally walk up the driveway, Tom and his crew had the rest of the rock delivered and then leveled it out. It is really nice now, we can park in the driveway if it is muddy and get into the house without getting full of mud.

Sara and Trey are by the "bay window"

Nina is standing in front of the roof trusses. They were delivered today also.

This view shows the full back of the house, plus you can also see where the yard slopes away from the driveway wall (it's the part covered with plastic - remember Den's erosion method?)

Week 8 - September 10 - Part 2

September 10th, continued.....

Now you can see the bathroom window and the wall of our bedroom.

Here is a view of the front of the house. I am taking the picture from the field on the side of the house. Den is talking to one of the neighbors. Her daughter came down to play on the dirt hill. Luckily for Sara, Nina and Gini have not discovered the dirt hill or at least have not thought about playing on it.....

Here is how it looks from the back....

Week 8 - September 10 - Part 1

September 10th, 2008

Holy cow....we are really moving along now!

Today they are putting up a lot more walls.

This is the view from inside, you can see from left to right, the living room "bay window", the back door to the deck, the window in Den's study, and the 6 foot sliding door in our bedroom (it also leads to the deck).

This is a shot from the garage side of the house looking toward the two guest bedrooms and the guest bath between them. You can also see the three clerestory windows in the dining room (on the front of the house.
